Travel Safety Tips
- Call or text your friends or family your itinerary and your hotel information.
- Use the share location option in your smartphone.
- Trust your instincts, if you feel uncomfortable don’t go.
- Be aware of what you drink, don’t accept open containers from a stranger. Cover your drink when in a crowded area.
- Only use ride-share or hotel taxis. Do not accept any rides from anyone that you did not order or see a taxi sign.
- Safeguard your hotel room, lock and dead bolt the door and keep your windows shut.
- Safeguard your hotel room keycard as you would your residence key. If you lose or it is stolen, report it to the hotel Front desk immediately.
- Use the safe if you need for personal belongings. You can buy a door jammer or place a rolled-up towel under the door for another layer of protection.
- Try to give the impression that you’re in your room even when you’re away, such as placing the Do Not Disturb sign on the outside of your door and turn on the TV.
- Don’t let any strangers into your room, even if they say they work for the hotel. You can always call the front desk to check whether someone was ordered by hotel staff to come to your room.

All evacuees shall gather in the North Plaza, located at the corner of NE Holladay Street and MLK, Jr. Blvd.
Fire Alarms – Should a fire alarm sound during an event at OCC and you are in an affected area at the sound of a fire alarm, please vacate the space to a nearby nonaffected area. Remain calm as OCC public safety agents and staff investigate the source of the alarm and determine appropriate next steps. Please know when a fire alarm is activated, some elevators may discontinue their normal operation. Please listen for instructions made throughout the building.
