LIGO is the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory and is an astronomy project focused on expanding the new field of gravitational wave astronomy through the detection of gravitational waves. LIGO is operated by Caltech & MIT and is funded by the NSF (National Science Foundation). LIGO made history in 2015 with the first direct detection of gravitational waves from the collision of a pair of black holes. This discovery helped to prove part of Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, and garnered the founders of LIGO the 2017 Nobel Prize in physics. Over the last decade, LIGO along with the other gravitational wave projects Virgo and KAGRA have established a network of gravitational wave detectors on the Earth. Gravitational waves offer humanity a new way to observe the universe!

As Montana’s first land-grant institution, Montana State University was founded on a visionary idea — that every student, regardless of background, should have the opportunity to pursue a college education. In keeping with that mission, in 2005 the university launched an ambitious project: creating a campus home to support MSU’s growing number of American Indian students. Today, we’re proud to say American Indian Hall is a dream fulfilled. Incorporating architectural concepts by MSU alumnus Dennis Sun Rhodes of the Northern Arapahoe, the American Indian Hall is both a work of art and educational resource. With dedicated spaces for study, collaboration and ceremony, the hall is home to MSU’s Department of Native American Studies and the American Indian/Alaska Native Student Success Services office, which serves over 850 Native students and provides important resources like academic advising, tutoring, counseling, advocacy and more, for all students in engineering, science, and beyond.
